CUTS AND BASE:

From 5/8" flat --cut 7 spokes 20" long. Mark the centers on the wrong side. Lay two spokes horizontally in front of you. The handle goes on the far side of the spokes. Weave one spoke (which is the vertical center spoke) vertically OVER the first horizontal spoke-UNDER the second horizontal spoke-and OVER THE HANDLE Continue adding spokes on either side of the center spoke, two on each side. Square your base to measure 5 1/2" x 3" . Twine two times with the #3 round reed. Upset your spokes.

SIDES:

Very carefully wipe your dyed reed to avoid any bleeding. Weave
as follows:
1 row of 3/8" red (this row will go over the handle)
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" red
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" red
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" red
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" navy
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" navy
1 row of 3/8" natural
1 row of 3/8" navy
1 row of 1/4" natural, cut and tuck

Rim with 1/2" flat, inside and out. Insert medium seagrass
between the rims and lash with 11/64" flat/oval. (I didn't lash
with an X at the handle but you may wish to.)

STAR:

I painted a primitive wooden star (approximately 2" wide) in antique gold and drilled two holes near the top of the star 5/8" apart. I used a piece of scrap 5/8" to help with my spacing. I tied my star on with butterscotch waxed linen. You may wish to tie a raffia bow on first before the star to add interest as I did shown on the photo.
